Soulful Materialism: Jerry Seinfeld’s Clio Acceptance Speech

After receiving the Clio, Jerry Seinfeld launched into a deadpan speech that ripped apart the advertising industry that bestowed the award on him.

It may have been his deadpan delivery that confused the audience, but there is clearly a hint of truth in what Seinfeld is saying. An outright speech denouncing the industry would have been a foolish move (after all, he does star in commercials, hence the Clio). But offering a speech in this disguising manner allows him to simultaneously criticize the industry while keen observers raise an eyebrow to the kernel of his argument. Give it a listen.

Ray Lontoc :is your typical enigma of the writing world — no educational qualifications or expertise in any particular subject — but his knowledge is completely mastered through experience. He writes about fashion because he dresses well, he talks about sports because he gambles on it, and he chit-chats about art & design and lifestyle & culture because his girlfriend forces him to go to those places on date nights.
