Hope you had a great weekend of weather wherever you are. Here in Toronto, snow reared it’s head for the last time (hopefully) for a late night goodbye on Saturday, and Steve Nash (Canada!) finally got passed his nemesis in the Spurs, with a swollen eye no less.
In case you missed it, here’s a few things to get you up to speed. Ibn Jasper came through with an interview to let us know how he got started, and where he plans to take his game. We also released the uncut, behind the scenes interview of Ibn, to give a glimpse into how hard we work to put it all together, and how much fun we have doing it. Our food editor Chuck Ortiz gets his hands dirty and schools us on how to gut a fish, while we delve into the musical taste of photo curator JJJJound, as part of our In Rotation series. Last but certainly not least, we take you back to a photostream with Gemo Wong, a former design director for Jordan apparel. Sit back and enjoy, with better weather we could all get used to weeks like this…
1. Inquiringmind Profile: Ibn Jasper
Growing up in Chicago’s south side, Ibn Jasper went from cutting hair locally, to worldwide jet setter, style consultant, and barber. Traveling with the G.O.O.D. Music camp, and exclusive barber to music artist and producer, Kanye West, Ibn Jasper has come a long way in his storied career. Link
2. Inquiringmind Uncut: Ibn Jasper Interview
Although we profiled his interview on our magazine side of things, there was many interesting segments in this interview that we had to share with our readers that didn’t make the cut. Link
3. Acquired Taste: How to Gut & Fillet a Fish
From sushi, to fish and chips, it’s apparent that a lot of men out there like fish but they don’t know what it takes to prepare it. As you get more familiar with the kitchen you’ll find that you eventually have to get your hands dirty. Fish is one of those tough items to prepare because of what’s involved. This piece will show you how to gut a fresh fish and then fillet it the right way. Link
4. In Rotation: JJJJound
It’s a telling tale when someone can invoke so much opinion and taste without writing a single word. Montreal resident, Justin Saunders or otherwise known in the online world as JJJJound, bookmarks a capsule of inspiration and taste through his site and further proves that a picture tells a thousand words. Today he graciously shares his musical taste, beyond the images. Link

In February 2007 during a stop in Las Vegas, we hooked up with Gemo Wong who was the design director for Jordan apparel. During an impromptu ’shoot we discussed growing up in the suburbs of Chicago, to working in New York City, and eventually working for Michael “Money” Jordan, himself. Link

During our L.A. stop from awhile back, we were able to meet up with Ibn Jasper. One of the most humbled people we have met, it is evident through his hard work and passion why he is where he is at right now. If you don’t know who Ibn Jasper is, get familiar. He has been cutting an artist named Kanye West for many years now and serves as a style consultant to many. If memory serves me correct, he just arrived that morning from a Paris flight, but was more then willing to talk shop with us. Although we profiled his interview on our magazine side of things, there was many interesting segments in this interview that we had to share with our readers that didn’t make the cut.
We met that Saturday afternoon in front of Hollywood High where he talked about working with ‘Ye West, to President Obama, to essentials in the closet.

What a weekend! Depending which coast (or country) you’re situated in, the sun was definitely out and the hint of summer is slowly becoming a reality.
Just in case you were occupied last week, let’s bring you up to speed. Holt Renfrew shared their know how with the art of applying cologne. Each week we will be highlighting a particular ‘How To’ that we feel will resonate to your everyday life, so keep your eyes peeled as that comes together. Once again, we got together with our friends at the Behance Network for our series of curated issues, their site also got a recent face lift if you haven’t noticed, and our food editor, Chuck Ortiz has shared one of his homegrown recipes that teaches you how to cook a steak, if the worst of mother nature prevents you from your BBQ, that is. To round it off, we took a look back, 2007 in particular, when we visited clothing company, No Mas at their company HQ, and our old pal, Coodie of Creative Control TV shared his music currently in rotation. Sit back, take it all in and enjoy…
1. How To: Apply Cologne
If you’re buying a new fragrance, you need to think of what it is you want to evoke. That’s kind of what you’re going with, you’re thinking, do you want to have an exotic scent or fresh scent? What time of the year is it? Just put yourself in a mind frame and when you go into the store it’s best to let the associate know what it is you’re looking for and and always do a smell test. Link
2. Behance Network: Inquiringmind Issue 4
For the past few months we have been curating issue with the creative platform known as Behance. As part of our ongoing collaboration with the Behance Network, we present to you our next installment with curated issue four. Upon one look at their website you may notice a recent face lift to their site, still in BETA, but definitely a solid and clean look. Link

It was a windy January 2007 afternoon when we met Chris Isenburg from No Mas at their company office in New York. With an influence in all things sports, he has applied his liking to his brand, No Mas. Link
4. Acquired Taste How To: Cook A Steak On The Stovetop
October to April is a tough time for all men alike because of the six month winter hibernation from the BBQ stand. In turn, you find yourself either forking out doe to eat at a good steakhouse or forfeit steak altogether. People have the misconception that you can’t cook a good steak indoors. Not only are we going to show you how to cook a flavorful steak, but one that will rival any steakhouse. Link
5. In Rotation: Coodie Simmons
Chicago born director, Coodie Simmons is behind some of the most raw hip-hop videos to date, from Kanye West’s Through the Wire and Jesus Walks (pt.3), to Mos Def’s Two Words, and most recently Erykah Badu’s Window Seat video, it is safe to say he has a knack to paint a picture for words and songs. This week he shares his songs in rotation. Link
