Collections; (Boneless One) Vintage Skateboards 1980’s

What does it mean to have a collection? Nowadays people collect things and don’t even know why their even collecting them. Well Boneless One (as he likes to call himself) is one to be admired for his collection of old school skateboards. Click continued for write up and photos.

To shed some light on his collection he has been doing this since 1986; he grew up skateboarding and has had an appreciation for the culture from a young age. Each and every deck that you see has meaningful significance and it’s beautiful to see “Boneless One” break down the history of each piece that he owns. Many props to Boneless One for sticking to what he loves and still having a great love and appreciation for skateboarding. Just to clear the air and save you some time none of these decks are for sale so don’t even bother asking! Here is a write up from his Flickr account:

To me Old School Skateboarding is a whole lifestyle, and it’s cliche these days. There is more to collecting than purchasing bunch of old crap from ebay.

But first let me get one thing straight:

None of the boards are for sale. “No” means “No”. Like the band i never liked.
Read and understand this: I will not respond to requests to sell something. I will ignore and remove those comments right away. Same goes with private messages asking me to sell stuff, i will delete them without response because i am not a shop, i am a collector and i want to keep my stuff that means i am not interested in selling. Are we clear? Thank You.

Background;

Hi, i am currently 34 years old and I started skateboarding back in 1986. I quit active skating around 1991 but the love for skateboarding and skateboards always remained.

By the end of the 90’s i got back into skateboarding as well as collecting old school skateboards which brought back all those great memories so it was only logical to pick up skateboarding from where i left.

Only this time we’re talking about getting back to mid-80’s, not 90’s. We’re talking about Bonelesses, Berts, Rock-n-rolls, Acid drops, Street Slides, and just plain street thrashing and occasional downhill stylin’. I mean just look at my skateboarding photos.
I have absolutely no interest in new school tricks or boards and yes, I am hopelessly stuck in the 80’s in my skateboarding skills but i don’t mind. I like it better here anyway. The ollie-based skating on a scaled down popsicle isn’t for me. I have an x-ray photo of my broken elbow to prove that. :)

I also have small collection of 70’s boards as well for the appreciation, but since i was born in ‘73 i sort of missed the 70’s skateboard wave. 80’s was my era.

Greatest post to date!!!! I remember most of those boards on the wall. I used to skate in a Caballero and then a G&S Billy Ruff… Then I went to the McGill… Those we’re the good skating days… Just watched “gleaming the cube” the other day… Classic…

[...] Inquiringmind has a short interview with skateboard collector, Boneless One. Self admittingly, Boneless One is only intersted in collecing boards from the 80’s, but has a few from the 70’s also. Looks like he has a  collection that most would be very envious of. You can see the full interview here. [...]

Loved the old school boards. A blast from the past. If you got any suggestions, I’m looking for a Mark Gonzalez Vision board(blue), to get back into riding with my kids. They’re very hard to find, as you probably know. Thanks for the memories.

That is a beautiful collection I am quite envious. Brings back a lot of memories. I owned a shop from about 88 to 99 a lot of good times. Was wondering if you could shed some light on where to find some old boards. I have been trying to find Joe Johnson and Kevin Stabb boards for ever especially the ones they had when they rode?owned 90. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks again for the memories I’m going to go watch the Bones Brigade Video Show, Future Primitive and Animal Chin.

Hey man, this is a wicked collection. I’ve just started skating myself. I noticed that on a few boards from around the 80’s, there is this plastic piece on the underside of the tail-end. Does anyone know what that piece is called or where I could pick one up?

    What’s up Boneless one,

I’m working on a skate trivia game for the iPhone and I wanted permission to use a few of your pictures. I too am a product of 80’s skate culture (check my website) and that is the main reason I started to make this game. I have a buddy who develops iPhone apps and he and I decided to make this game. So far we have gotten many photos from people like you who happen to have pics of their boards.

If you give me your email I can send you a screen shot of the game your board pics would be going in.

    Thanks,

    Dave

Hello i have perchaced what appears to be an old skateboard from this era but am not sure what it is called. It is similar to one of the pictures here the vision deck with the crazy looking guy with spiral glasses. However the deck i brought is blue pink and green and has the word free form or something on it if you know what this it be rapt

Skateboards should be under your feet, not on the wall. And this fella only skated for five years, pah.

I’m trying to find a picture of my last board I had when I was a kid… Thanks to all the things I did as a teen that ruined my memory, the only thing I can remember about the deck is that it had a picture of Raggedy Ann on the bottom… Can someone help me please… I’d like to know who made the board, who was sponsored by the board and I’d like to have a picture of it to show my kids… I believe it was from the early 90’s… THANKS!!!!!!!!!!!!

DO YOU WANT TO SELL THESE BOARDS? I COULD HELP YOU LIST THEM ON EBAY. SOME OF THESE BOARDS COULD BE WORTH TWENTY OR THIRTY DOLLARS. DID YOU HAVE TO DRILL ANY HOLES TO HANG THEM UP?
