Designed by architects Enric Miralles & Benedetta Tagliabue (EMBT), the Spanish Pavilion for the 2010 Shanghai Expo showcases environmentally sustainable designs featuring the sharpest, cutting edge technology. Meshing the ancient skill of wicker basketwork with a contemporary structure, EMBT’s intricate concept aims to bridge spanish heritage craftwork with traditions of the far east. Comprised of a steel supported skeleteon, the flexible wicker panels create a tentative skin emitting a variety of lighting, circulation, and depth effects. Garnering a multitude of awards for their work, EMBT continues to deliver by engineering a complex structure with an outer shell that essentially serves as a climatic memberane. A site to behold, the Spanish Pavillion’s wicker basket-inspired blueprint is a design worth examining closely. Source

Classic Kanye West with production from Bink!, Mr. West is staying on his Friday G.O.O.D. music drops. I hope this is the direction of his new album, I understand growth and these musicians are human, but sometimes you just want the ham sandwich with cheese without all the extra condiments. Link

Cole absolutely went in on this Bink! produced beat. J. Cole had a venting session and as he continues to prep for his debut album with a potential release date for this year (hopefully), this “Villematic” is another reason we should all keep our eye on the North Carolinian. This long weekend was well deserved, and the view from Toronto (above) was just as good. Well, minus the rain, wind, and Hurricane Earl - it was splendid. I’ll take any vacation day regardless of the weather. On the vacation note, let’s get started this week by checking out the photo sets from the upcoming plans to hotel and private residence Bisha. If you also happened to get outdoors this weekend, take a look at the photo sets from Tim Kemple and Warren Bolster, and see if you can challenge them for outdoor supremacy. Bisha is a combination of a private residence and hotel that elevates 41 storeys above the entertainment district of Toronto. Not only are the plans elegant, but if location is everything, they sure know how to pick the spot. These renderings only tell half the story, as the room plans outlined in the brochure are sure to offer the right combination of comfort, luxury, and access to the city. Link

2. Tim Kemple

Based in Salt Lake City, photographer Tim Kemple has received high praise for ascending to great heights while capturing his daring vision. A former professional climber, Kemple primarily rolls with three different setups on his expeditions. Preferring to shoot with lighting as far off-axis as possible, Kemple emphasizes texture and depth in his images. The unfortunate passing of Warren Bolster will approach its four year anniversary on the sixth of September. A pioneer of skateboard and surfing photography, Bolster produced iconic covers for Surfer Magazine spanning over the course of two decades. Simultaneously, he contributed as a focal point for the resurgence of skateboard culture in the 70’s as editor for Skateboarder Magazine. Renown as a master of photography, Bolster’s vision captured new angles, from daring heights, exhibiting remarkable perspectives such as noseriding photos that displayed never before seen proximity to view extreme sports. After the original barn in Wilton, Connecticut was partially damaged by fire, architects Specht Harpman completed a modern design to restore its structure. Particularly keen on salvaging the exterior’s traditional design, partners Scott Specht and Louise Harpman maintained the rural heritage of America’s heartland while simultaneously delivering a lifeline for the revival of the barn’s interior concept. Boasting a bright, contemporary ambiance, the inside was architected to create a free volume space featuring triple height ceilings & a floor plan clear of barriers. Further enhanced by polished concrete floors with exposed maple framing, the layout also includes custom wood finishing, completing a rather extraordinary blueprint. Link
